According XOJANE almost all 90’s fashion trends have come back with a vengeance. Flannels, crop tops, overalls, Dr. Martens, high rise jeans, Dunlops are back and everywhere!

According to the very fashionable Zoe Report  “Historically snoozy in appearance yet an absolute must for beach and poolside lounging (Louboutin wedges + wet cement = a disaster waiting to happen), the rubber flip-flop has officially ditched its not-so-chic reputation for a fashionable revamp”

The flip flop has been worn for thousands of years, with paintings of the sandals in ancient Egypt and gaining popularity in the US in the 1950’s during the Post War boom when soldiers brought home Japanese Zori with them. They even crop up in our daily use of language where the term ‘flip-flopping’ indicates an about-turn or complete change of opinion.

In more recent times, in addition to the usual beach wear, flip-flops have emerged as a trendy accessory to compliment the popular maxi dress and other formal and informal wear. In a recent article on the Huffington Post, popular celebrities are regularly sighted wearing flip-flops. “Nicole Richie, Charlize Theron and Elle Macpherson seem to think that they are worthy of a formal event” (Huffington Post).
