Today, I was incredibly moved when my partner in crime JP O’Sullivan, Projects Director of Hope UK shared with me a story of this little boy.
Due to child protection policies now, we cannot share names or photos of this one 6 year old boy who recently got brought into one of the Hope protection homes.
He was given one of our Moeloco donated shoes. This boy had never owned a pair of shoes and now sleeps every night with these shoes under his pillow.
Let’s for a moment, understand more about child protection. It’s about saving lives. The Hope Foundation work tirelessly to prevent the abuse and exploitation of children. Child protection is about rescuing children from starvation and providing life-saving healthcare. It is also about responding against violence and abuse and taking action to prevent child trafficking. Hope and their partners work to offer alternatives to child labour so children have a childhood. So they have time to be children.
Hope’s child watch programme takes positive action to protect children at risk through their emergency response team. Health experts and volunteers go out on patrol every night on the Kolkata streets, responding to those most in need.
Child protection is a high priority for the Hope Foundation.
When Hope first began, the vision was to fund one home for girls. Today there are eight protection homes looking after more than 880 children a day.
Thank you for being part of our community and for making a difference to already 400 children. We are working on being able to send our next batch of shoes soon.
