It’s that time of year again. December has come and with it all the joys of Christmas. For the longest time it’s been about gifts under the tree, the lights in the windows, the cards in the mail, barbeque dinners with family and friends, stockings hanging in the living room, and shouts of “Merry Christmas” to those who pass us in the streets.
But what is the real meaning of Christmas?
For many people, Christmas is a time of sorrow. They don’t have the extra money to buy presents for their children, family, and friends. Many are saddened at Christmas time when they think of their loved ones who will not be able to come home for various reasons.
Yet, Christmas can be a season of great joy that doesn’t require over spending or indulging. It may simply mean spending quality time with loved ones. Whilst not everyone can afford gifts, or the luxury of spending time with loved ones perhaps we can make a difference for these people who can’t enjoy this simple pleasure many of us take for granted. Or do something simple that doesn’t require excess.
For example, our #1000 Shoes For India Campaign helps to not only provide shoes for the orphaned children of India but also can help change their lives helping them have a much more enjoyable Christmas this year. Find out more here
There are so many wonderful and thoughtful ways to give back this Christmas:
- Purchasing from a local/small business rather than a large department store
- Making a gift from the heart
- Donating to charities that provide food and gifts to those who have very little in your community.
- Spending time with someone who is lonely.
This year I am going to challenge myself and those of you who are reading to think about how to make a heartfelt and thoughtful difference when gift giving this Christmas.
It doesn’t even have to take a lot of time or energy to so, at least not that much more than it would to spend hours trawling the department stores, wrapping gifts.
However the impact we have could be well worth the little effort.
If you want to help support the women in the Life Skills fashion unit facilitated by HOPE, you may like to buy a pair of flip flops to receive one of the exclusive gorgeous Sari Bags as a complimentary gift from us to say thank you for your support.
The funds generated through orders made to this unit create a central pool of money that then allow the women to apply for a loan to start their mirco enterprise business off.
I am so proud of this opportunity, Moeloco have to be able to give back in this way. To me this is what christmas is all about.
